A pupil from Avon Valley College, part of Salisbury Plain Academies, is celebrating winning a gold medal in a recent judo competition.
13 year old Jasmin Edwards represented the Western Area of England for the England squad in the pre-cadets under 48s weight category in Scotland.
This gold medal follows Jasmin winning a bronze medal at the British Championships in Sheffield in December in the under 44 pre-cadets. Jasmin, who is now classed as a British champion, was asked to carry the George Cross flag around the arena area for the finals.
Jasmin has been doing judo for five years starting at a school club before joining Devizes Judo Club. Jasmin trains twice a week at the county club and also attends Bath University twice a month to train. The hard working athlete also trains in Walsall for the England team six hours a month.
“Before Jasmin started judo she had little confidence,” said her mum, Karen. “But now has plenty thanks to the support and friends she has gained from the sport.”
As for the future Jasmin would like to become a coach at her club one day and get onto the Great Britain team and win a place at the Olympics.
