Could you volunteer for Kennet Friends?

Kennet Friends

Kennet Friends are looking for a new volunteer to take over the role of secretary for their group.

If you haven’t heard of them before, Kennet Friends is a small drop in centre run for mostly older people who have had mental or physical illnesses.

It provides a safe, caring and interesting place for people who might otherwise remain imprisoned within four walls.

It is open two days a week Tuesdays and Fridays, in the Scout Hall in Ludgershall. The centre itself is run day to day by a Manager and an Assistant Manager, there is also a cook who provides a midday meal.

There is a committee meeting once every two months usually on a Friday afternoon.  The secretary role is mainly to keep in touch with their fundraiser Paul Flynn.  To keep track of applications for money from Trusts etc applied for, and to report back to donors on how the money  been spent. The information is readily available from the manager or the Treasurer. All Trusts and Charities ask for a report on how their money has been used.  This is usually supplied on a form.

The secretary has to produce an Annual Report.  This sounds daunting but there is a full template and the Chairman and Manager produce the reports for it.

The secretary also has to keep the information at the Charity Commission up to date.  This has to be done after the AGM which is usually at the beginning of September.

Anyone interested can contact Georgie Banyard via kennetfriends@waitrose.com
