Why not check out two large-scale free events this weekend?
To mark this year’s focus on the arts and culture of New Zealand, the Whakatuwhera Opening Ceremony (Friday 27 May, 8pm) features the Maori group Ngati Ranana and the Festival’s Chorus of 200 community singers coming together in song, surrounded by a ring of fire in Cathedral Close.
And be sure to check out free street theatre, circus, dance and music across the city centre in City Encounters (Sunday 29 and Monday 30, 11am to 6pm), plus an International Market, and the free Family Play Day on Choristers’ Green on Bank Holiday Monday, 2 to 6pm.
