People in Wiltshire with drug and alcohol issues are getting committed support from proactive staff who work well with partners, according to a leading regulator.
The Wiltshire Council-commissioned drug and alcohol recovery service has been praised following a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission. The Wiltshire Substance Misuse Service, delivered by Turning Point, has received the most positive inspection report the service has ever received.
The service aims to help people aged 18 and over to think about their drug and alcohol usage, and if they want to make changes it supports them to put together a tailored action plan. The service provides a range of support and interventions including a structured group work programme, counselling, one to one work, parenting course and access to online resources and tools to support recovery.
Last year a total of 518 people left treatment successfully having been supported by the service.
The aim of the inspection was to found out if the service is safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs and well led. Here are some of the report highlights:
- Staff assessed and managed risk very well. They completed comprehensive risk assessments and ensured risk issues were communicated with others • Staff followed safeguarding procedures and their awareness and commitment to protect clients and others from abuse was high quality • Staff had good working relationships with other agencies, particularly the local authority safeguarding adults team • Staff interacted with clients in a warm, positive supportive manner and treated them as individuals • Staff identified each client’s recovery as individual and they formulated discharge plans around individual needs • Leadership and management was strong and visible in allocations and across the provider
