Leisure summer holiday activities for young people

The summer holidays are fast approaching and Wiltshire Council’s Get Active programme of sports and physical activity returns just in time!

The popular sports camps include athletics, basketball, cricket, tennis and football and are fun, inclusive and provide young people with sports coaching, challenges and competitions. There are also a number of disability multi-sport day camps offered.

The council’s leisure centre Camp Activate programme provides a range of exciting activities for young people aged 5 – 14, with a different theme for each week:

Week 1 – Emergency Services / Stay Safe
Week 2 – World Athletics Championships
Week 3 – Super Hero’s
Week 4 – Eco Friendly
Week 5 – Movies / Book Week

Sessions are run by fully qualified staff in line with Ofsted guidelines and have limited spaces to make sure they are run safely.

There is also the popular multi-sport, Fun in the Sun programme, which this summer will visit 27 places in the county for a weekly 90 minute session of outdoor games, activities and sports. This programme is aimed at five to 11 year olds and is free to attend.

Finally, free swimming for under 16s is available again during specific sessions at swimming pools across the county. Young people are required to register for this programme in advance of attending any session.
