Make The Wright Choice event at Wellington Academy

Be Wiser Insurance is helping students ‘Make the Wright Choice’ at an event at Wellington Academy in Tidworth later this month.

The presentation will be led by Mark Wright, the winner of The Apprentice in 2014.

“I’m very excited to partner with Be Wiser Insurance again in 2017. It’s great working with a company that provides such a range of training opportunities for young people,” said Mark Wright.

“I’ve been lucky enough to build a successful career, so if I can help or inspire young people to achieve a brighter future after they finish full time education that would be fantastic!”

The event on Tuesday March 28 from 4-6pm will be a chance for students and parents to gain valuable and inspiring advice on competitive business, the importance of hard work and perseverance as well as anecdotes on surviving Lord Alan Sugar’s boardroom!

There will also be the opportunity to learn about the successful apprenticeship programme at Be Wiser, as well as the debt-free degree, launched last year.

Twenty three year old Natasha Hookings has just completed the three year Surestart apprenticeship programme at Be Wiser. She now has an ACII qualification, an advanced diploma in insurance, from the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Privately educated Natasha, who achieved 12 GCSEs, one As Level and three A Levels, decided that the apprenticeship programme at Be Wiser was a better alternative to university.

“I was the only person in my class not to follow the traditional university route, “said Natasha. “But the apprenticeship suited me because it meant further learning and a career at the same time,” said Natasha.

After working across all the departments within Be Wiser Natasha is now working in the audit department and is aiming high. “I would like to stay at Be Wiser and progress into middle and then higher management.”

Ruth Moate, who has also been on the Surestart programme says working in different areas of the business allows you to meet different people and learn from them. The 27 year old from Basingstoke helped start a project that allows customers to talk to someone as soon as they call in rather than an automated system.

“The team started with just six people and has grown to 22. It’s been great experience being involved from the start and I am going to continue pushing this forward. “It’s a really good alternative to university,” she said.

Natasha agrees. “A lot of my friends who have a traditional degree are now working in shops and don’t know what they are doing and they have no work experience.”

And she has some sound advice for current students who are about to take their exams.

“Don’t always think about going to university, although teachers will strongly suggest that you do, there are better alternatives out there.”
