There is now an easier way to register births and deaths as Wiltshire Registration Service opens up a new office at Salisbury District Hospital.
From today (23 May) the Wiltshire Council service
has a new registrar’s office in the hospital complex making it easier for residents of Salisbury and the surrounding districts.
The main office at Bourne Hill will also remain open Monday to Friday and people can book appointments there or at the new office at the hospital.
New families are now able to book to register their babies on site at the hospital, avoiding the additional arrangements of visiting Bourne Hill. People can also register a death at the new office and bereaved families can benefit from Wiltshire’s Tell Us Once service which informs government organisations and local council services about the death so families do not have to repeat the detail during a difficult time for them.
Stuart Wheeler, cabinet member for governance said: “This is an excellent move which will make the whole process so much easier for residents. It will be more convenient for a significant number of people wishing to register a birth or death without having to make the trip to the Registration Office at Bourne Hill. We’re grateful to Salisbury District Hospital for agreeing to host this new service and for their generous help and advice, and to The Stars Appeal which has helped us create this pleasant space.”
As well as support from the hospital in providing the space, the Salisbury District Hospital Stars Appeal helped refurbish the new office. The Stars Appeal is the hospital’s charity and raises money to create the best possible experience for patients and their families by funding extra care and equipment over and above that provided by the NHS. The charity works hard to help local people across all wards and departments, with particular focus on cancer, cardiac care and children.
Dave Cates, head of fundraising for the appeal said: “The Stars Appeal is all about helping local people in hospital and this new service will do just that. We are proud to be able to help fund this new office that will help make life easier for local families who have just welcomed a new baby and for those who have sadly suffered a bereavement. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our donors and supporters, without whom none of the Stars Appeal’s life changing work would be possible.”
