South Wiltshire UTC on Wilton Road in Salisbury is opening its doors to prospective students and their parents next week.
As well as being able to meet the Principal and members of staff, visitors will have the opportunity to talk with top employers, who have strong links with the college.
The open evening, on Wednesday January 24th from 6.30pm, will give young people who are interested in science, technology, engineering and maths, the chance to have a look around the college and see its state of the art facilities.
Principal Joe Mulligan said: “I often describe a UTC as being a big school, they sit somewhere between school and a college, and offer a calmer and more grown-up environment. With our fantastic facilities, specialist equipment, experienced teaching staff, and links with employers, we are inspiring the scientists and engineers of the future.”
A range of employers and academic sponsors will be there to talk to young people about careers in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects and how they support the UTC. These include Army Careers, Chemring, MRT Castings, Porton BioPharma, Public Health England, QinetiQ, Roke Manor, Wiltshire College, University of Southampton, DSTL and the Royal Navy.
Joe Mulligan, Principal, emphasised that the support they get from the employers is fantastic. “They can’t do enough for us,” he said. “They support us in the curriculum, industry projects, employability skills and mock interviews, as well as offering our students work experience and apprenticeships. Progression into specialist areas from UTCs is excellent, whether directly into employment or continuing education at either college or university.”
