Pupils at St Michael’s Primary School dress up as super heroes

Pupils and staff from St Michael’s Primary School in Figheldean dressed up as super heroes recently to raise money for the Wish Upon A Star charity.

They raised £80 for the charity that grants the wishes of children who are suffering from life threatening or terminal illness.

Principal of St Michael’s Primary School, Nicky Phillips said, “The children dreamt up some brand new super heroes and others dressed up as the more familiar characters. Meanwhile the staff all dressed up as ‘Mrs May,’ a particular hero of ours from the Biff and Chip books. She’s a hero in schools continuing to engage pupils from generation to generation!”
The pupils all enjoyed using their super powers in a range of activities including testing balancing on one leg, hopping, throwing and jumping highest and furthest.
“There was also a Mrs May race and of course Mrs May from one of our favourite books was the winner,” said Nicky Phillips.
Keeping a close eye on all the activities were pupils from Year 5 and 6. They were collecting the winners in each category and with the data working out the mean, mode and median (average, popular and middle). The results will be on display in their classrooms for everyone to see.
“Everyone had a really great time. Not only did we raise money for charity, but the older children got to use some of their maths skills in a fun and interesting way,” said Nicky Phillips.
