Stop Benefit Fraud

Stop Benefit Fraud

A Wiltshire Council investigation found Samantha Baker, 24, of Ebble Close, Tidworth, had dishonestly received more than £8,000 of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit and Council Tax Reduction after failing to declare that her partner had returned to full time work. On 14 December 2015, Miss Baker pleaded guilty at Salisbury Magistrates Court and was given a 12 months, 120 hours community service penalty, and ordered to pay a contribution towards costs of £200. Miss Baker will have to repay all monies overpaid to Wiltshire Council. It is always the responsibility of the person claiming benefit to tell the council of any changes in circumstances which may affect their entitlement. If there is any doubt, then the Revenues and Benefits Team will be happy to discuss any issues. Please contact 0300 456 0110 to report any changes in circumstances or ask for advice. The council is very keen to stamp out fraud and will take action against those found to be cheating the system. If you have any information that can help catch a cheat, call Wiltshire Council’s confidential hotline on 01249 706256. Fraud can also be reported on the council’s website www.wiltshire.gov.uk the “Report a Fraud” feature which is also on the My Wiltshire app,  available for Android, Windows and Blackberry phones.  You do not have to give your name and you can be assured of complete confidentiality at all times.
