Tidworth Area Board supports parents to learn first aid

On Friday 20th January Home-Start Kennet in partnership with the Windmill Hill Children’s Centre and funded by a grant from Tidworth Area Board, ran a First Aid course for Parents. Sharon Kirwan, a representative from St John’s Ambulance gave a comprehensive and informative demonstration to a group of young mum’s featuring how to deal with burns, head injuries and CPR amongst other topics. The session was very interactive with Sharon taking questions from the parents and demonstrating her wealth of personal experience as session progressed. The Children’s Centre provided a crèche for children of the parents attending. The course was well received and it is hoped that we will be able to put together similar courses in the near future.

From the evaluation forms on the day we can see all those attending felt more confident in dealing with an emergency. 83% of those who attended were over 20 years of age and 33% had a partner in the military. 16% were lone parents.

Quotes from those attending:
“She [Sharon Kirwan] was very helpful and full of information, friendly.”
“It was a very interesting course, thank you.”
“The trainer was very knowledgeable and made everyone feel comfortable.”
