Tidworth Community Area Insight Project: What does a good life look like?

wiltshire cil

What do we want to do? We want to identify what matters to people living in your area: what makes a difference in their lives, what is important and what they would like to change, so we can find ways to best support the community to be a kind and welcoming place.

This isn’t just about the BIG services that people use but the relationships that make up our ‘real’ lives.  Examples could be the neighbour that brings in the milk and stops for a chat, the shop staff who show kindness or an older person wanting to share their knowledge, gained from a lifetime of working, with younger people.

‘Our ambition is to make TCA the kindness capital of Wiltshire!’

How can you be involved? We are looking for people to act as Community Listeners.  These are people who are part of their community and happy to listen to what people think is important in their community, and the stories they want to share.

What would you have to do? You would be asked to come along to a short information session, where we will explain in more detail what we are trying to do and give your ideas on how to gather stories.  As a Community Listener there won’t be any formal volunteering requirements you just need to be interested in your community and willing to listen to what people have to say about it.

What will happen with the information? We want to share your stories and ideas so that the whole community can learn from them.  The stories could be used as they are or key themes taken from all the stories might be pulled together into a colourful poster so we can promote the key messages.  The important thing to remember is that everything will be anonymised and anyone can ask us at any time to remove stories.  At the information session we will talk about gaining consent to use the stories you might gather.

Who is doing this work?  Wiltshire Centre for Independent Living is a charity which works with and for disabled people in Wiltshire.  Our aim is to make sure Disabled people can live independently and well at the heart of the communities.  We are supported by your Local Area Board and have some funding from the Big Lottery.

Interested? You can contact Mary Reed on 0300 1233442, mary@wiltshirecil.org.uk to chat more about this or you can give your contact details to the person visiting you and Mary will be in touch
