Tidworth Community Area Men’s Shed project has begun and is on the lookout for more local people to get involved.
An exploratory meeting was held on 23rd February at Wellington Academy’s Unit at Castledown Business Centre, Ludgershall, to gauge the interest in the project from the local community.
Around a dozen residents came along to the initial meeting, to hear more about the Men’s Shed movement from the Chair & Vice Chair of Andover Men’s Shed, who shared their positive experiences of the Men’s Shed in their area.
The residents who attended, expressed their desire to see something similar happen in our community, and Community Engagement Manager, Marc Read, is now in discussions with the Wellington Academy about the possibility of using their unit on the Castledown Business Centre as a place for the Men’s Shed to operate from.
A number of the residents who attended the meeting have put their names forward to form a committee to help take this project forward.
The shed when formed will be a place where men can share tools, advice, and materials to work on projects of their choosing.
Once a venue for the shed has been secured, the key to a successful shed is all about the people, and although Tidworth Community Area Shed will not be gender or age specific, primarily the ‘UK Men’s shed network’ is targeted at men aged 55 and above.
If you were not able to make the initial meeting but think it sounds like a good idea or something you might want to get involved with, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to hear more or get involved!
